According to the Golden Knights website, the last parachute jumper to be killed was in 1980, when Sgt. First Class Thomas Johnson died while performing a stunt at an air show in Fredericksburg, Va.

News reports describe Johnson and another member of the Golden Knights team leaping from a plane from about 10,000 feet, then Johnson plunging to his death after both his main and reserve parachutes failed to deploy in time.

Johnson’s parents, brother and several other relatives were among the spectators when the disaster occurred, news reports stated.
