OBITUARY:

Louie Heger Dies at St. James Hospital

News of the death of Ludwig Karl (louie) Heger, which occurred at the St. James hospital at 8:50 o'clock Monday evening, July 18th, 1938 brought sorrow to the hearts of relatives and many friends in and around Madelia.

For more than ten years Mr. Heger had been in failing health. In 1927 he submitted to an operation for gall bladder trouble and since that time his health has gradually failed. While visiting in St. James, on July 19th, he was suddenly taken ill and was removed to the
St. James hospital where, notwithstanding the best of care, he passed away at the time above mentioned. The immediate cause of his death was obstruction of the gall bladder and complications.

Ludwig Karl Heger was born in Mahrisch, Trubau, Austria, August 3, 1868. In October, 1889, he came to the United States and located at Heron Lake, Minnesota, where he resided for about two years. He then went to St. James where he owned and operated a harness shop for two years, and where, on July 7, 1908, he was married to Margaret Blaha.

He came to Madelia and accepted work in the shoe repair department of the Keber store. Later, he went to work as a shoemaker for August Simonett, which position he retained for about 26 years. For the past few years he has been care-taker at Flanders' Park in Madelia.

Mr. Heger was popular with all who knew him and he had many friends who will sincerely regret his death. He was a devout member of the Catholic church and was also a member of St. Joseph's Society and of the Catholic Order of Foresters. For 25 years he was secretary of St. Joseph's Society.

Left to mourn Mr. Heger's death are his widow and four children. The children, all of whom were here to attend the funeral, are: Mrs. P.B. Nicklaus (Agnes) of Parkersburg, Iowa; Joe, of La Salle; John, of Madelia, and Ludwig, who is located at the U.S. Submarine base at New
London, Connecticut. Mr. Heger is also survived by one brother, who lives in Austria.

Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church, in Madelia, at 9:30 o'clock this (Friday) morning, and the remains will be laid to rest in Calvary cemetery.
