Teddy C. Brewer, son of Hiram and Etta Brewer, was born on September 17, 1987. His life, up to the time of his enlistment, was spent at Greenfield, where he was a student in the elementary grades and in high school. He was a paper carrier for several years at Greenfield for the Spencer Publishing Company. About the first of February, 1915, he left home, and on February 8th enlisted in the United States Regular Army at Columbus, Ohio. He was attached to Company K, 28th infantry, and went with the 1st Division to France. He was with the troops defending the front line trenches during the German offensive in the early part of the summer of 1918. On May 16, 1918, he was severely wounded and on May 17 he died, the first boy from this county to give up his life on the line of battle. His body has been returned and is buried in Park Cemetery, Greenfield, IN.
