U.S. Senator, Texas Governor. After earning a law degree from Baylor University in 1932, he opened a law practice in Liberty, Texas and was a member of the Texas State House of Representatives, (1939-43). During World War II, he served as a Captain in the US Army as an instructor at the Army School for Personnel Services in Virginia. He also shared his time with the US Marines when he was sent to Japan, to set up a Marine Personnel School, in 1945. After the war, he served as Attorney General of Texas, (1946-53) and elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1953, serving until 1957. In 1957, he was elected as a Democrat the 38th Governor of Texas, serving until 1963. After his term, he practiced law (1963-67) and was appointed by President Lyndon Johnson as Director of the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Assistant to the President for Federal-State Relations, (1967-69). He served as a member of the Texas Supreme Court, (1971-80) and resumed the practice of law until his death from a stroke at age 77. His son Marion Price Daniel Jr. was also a Texas politician.
