Opal Mae Banks of Letcher passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at her residence. She was 79. Opal was the daughter of the late George M. and Sally Banks Adams born June 27, 1930, and was the widow of Everett Banks. Surviving are three children: Ed (Cheryl) Banks, Bob (Delana) Banks, and Sue (Densmore) Goodson, all of Letcher; two brothers Bill Adams of Letcher and Luther Adams of Morehead; three sisters: Hazel Adams of Letcher, Susie Raglin of Letcher, and Danola Bell of Farmersville, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Kenny Joe, Beth, Jessie, Josh, Dallas, Desiree, Jacquie, and Collen, seven great grandchildren: Hunter, Gage, Hayden, Hannah, Logan, Lilly Mae, and Layla; along with a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing. Opal was preceded in death by four brothers, George M. Adams, Jr., Gurney Adams, James Adams, and Douglas Adams; one sister, Martha Howard; and one great grandchild, Hailey Banks. Funeral services for Opal Mae Banks were held Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Jeremiah Missionary Baptist Church with Caleb Combs and Allen Meyers officiating. A concluding service followed at the Burton Hill Cemetery at Letcher. Pallbearers were: Kenny Joe Banks, Josh Banks, Anthony Banks, Dallas Banks, Andy Scott, Hunter Banks, Gage Banks and Ben Caudill. Letcher Funeral Home cared for the arrangements.
