Born in Webb, Mississippi, Mr. Horton was the fifth child of the late Earnest and Lolet (Murry) Horton Sr... He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at the Sturdivant Chapel M.B. Church in Glendora, MS. He and later joined Old Antioch M.B. Church in Sumner, MS, where he served as Assistant Superintendent on the Sunday school program; was a member on the Board of Trustees, and where he also met his wife, Emma Eudora McGee. They were married on December 22, 1973 and three children were born to their union.

He also served his country during the Korean Conflict by joining the United States Army. He also served his local community by being a member of the Tallahatchie County Levee Board, The Hampton Lake/Sharkey Road Association, the Emmitt Till Memorial Commission of Tallahatchie County and an advisor for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) of Tallahatchie County.

At the time of his passing, he left to cherish his memory, his lovely and devoted wife of nearly 38 years, Emma Eudora, his three children, four grandchildren, four brothers and five sisters, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family members.
