Mother: Alice Griffen, born in Iowa
Wife: Settie Glen
Thomas R. Gurwell, night operator at the Burlington here, was found dead on the floor in front of his desk about 9:30 p.m. Friday last. He apparently suffered a heart attack as he started to use the telephone, as the receiver was off the hook and dangling near the floor.
Early in life, Mr. Gurwell became interested in railroading. He had been night operator here for the past five years and has been on this division of the Burlington for sixteen years. He was well-known in railroad circles throughout the state. Quiet and unassuming, yet he was held in highest esteem by all who knew him.
He is survived by his widow and a brother, H. L., of Oklahoma City.
Information was obtained from his obituary in the Douglas Budget, June 9, 1938, mortuary and cemetery records.
