Garrett, age 83, was the son of John F. and Kizzy (Dial) Sweat. He was the husband of Edna (McCulley) Sweat. They were married in June, 1941, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Garrett passed away at Heartland Holly Glen Nursing Home, Toledo, Ohio, where he had been a resident for three weeks.
He had worked at the Consolidated Packaging Corporation for over 33 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Monroe and Frenchtown Senior Citizens and was a member of the Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church.
Survived by his loving wife; two brothers, Hobart V. of Monroe, and Jesse of Knoxville, and five sisters, Carrie Valentine, Eltha Rosser, Pearl Lanier, Willie Dunn, Lula Cox. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Garrett was laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, Mi.
