SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. - Charles W. Copen, 81, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., formerly of Parkersburg, died March 5, 2003, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Sandestin, Fla.

He was born May 8, 1921, in Vienna, a son of the late Charles C. and Agatha Buck Copen. He was employed in construction and retired from the West Virginia Labors Union No. 1085 after 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Kathryn Brown Copen of Santa Rosa Beach; two daughters, Jo Ann McFee and her husband, Samuel, of Elizabeth and Connie Sue Yocum of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dayton Copen of Elizabeth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only son, Roger Lee Copen in 1995 and one brother, Russell Copen.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. David Morris officiating. Burial will be in Mayberry Cemetery in Palestine, W.Va. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
