Cleora D. Gilbert
Cleora Reed Gilbert, age 96, of Cape Coral, Florida, previously of Gasport, entered into rest on Monday, December 8, 2008 at Cape Coral Rehabilitation Health Care Center. Born February 12, 1912 in East Aurora, NY, she was the daughter of the late: Howard and Clara (nee Bender) Reed.
Cleora graduated from E. Aurora High School and the Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing in 1934. She married Elton Bream, a funeral director in Gasport, September 27, 1941. Cleora earned her N.Y.S. Funeral Directors license in 1948 and continued operating the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home until her retirement in 1978. She and her husband were active in N.Y.S., Pennsylvania and Canada with their horses and maintained the El.-Cle stable for many years. Elton passed away in 1970. She married Donald Gilbert October 23, 1976. She and Don spent winters in Florida becoming permanent residents in 1993. Donald died in 1997. Cleora was a member of the Gasport Chapter #153 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Past Grand Officer of N.Y.S. Eastern Star, the Home Rebecca Lodge #263, Covenant United Church of Christ in Gasport, the Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral, Florida and the Cape Coral Hospital Auxiliary. She had lived in Florida the past 15 years, previously of Gasport.
Mother of: Joanne Satterfield of St. Cloud, FL and the late Reverend Dr. Douglas Gilbert. Mother-in-law of: Barbara Gilbert of Cheektowaga. Sister of: Olive E. Paul of Clyde, NC, Doris Darling of Morrow, Ohio. Sister-in-law of: Shirley Reed of Cape Coral, FL and Eunice Hernberger of Lockport. Her twin brother, Clifford, and brother Oliver "Twisty" Reed predeceased her. 6 grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main Street, Gasport, on Saturday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am with the Reverend Jackie Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Royalton Mountain Ridge Cemetery. Gasport, NY.
