Lucy O'Connor, 74, of Lewellen, died Dec. 21, 2011, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Grant Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Pfeifer, officiating. Burial will be at the Elsie Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at the church. Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lucy O'Connor was the second wife of Jerry O'Connor (also buried in the Elsie Cemetery).

Lucille O'Connor was born on September 2, 1937 at Ogallala, Nebraska. She was the seventh of eight children born to John and Marie Sibel Vasa. The family lived in Arthur until Lucy was five years old when they moved to Sutherland. Lucy attended school in Sutherland and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1956.
Lucy was married to Jerry O'Connor of Elsie on January 15, 1957 in Ogallala. They lived in Elsie before moving to Angora in 1965. In 1975 they moved to Wilsey, Kansas where they were associated with the Diamond Springs ranch. Jerry died in 1992 and Lucy moved to Ogallala. In 1996 Lucy moved to Lewellen where she started working for the Garden County Health Services as a dietary manager. She was presently working at the Riverside Assisted Living in Lewellen. Lucy suffered a ruptured aneurysm on Sunday, December 18, and was transferred to the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff where she died on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. She had reached the age of 74. Lucy enjoyed her bridge clubs and an occasional gambling trip. Her greatest joy was following her grandchildren and their activities. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers - Ben, William, and Robert. Lucy is survived by five daughters - Cindy Post of Bridgeport Nebr., Karen (Jim) Francescangeli of Bedford, Texas, Debbie O'Connor (Kidd R. McKillip) and Micki McConnell, all of Bridgeport, and Jeri Lyn (Oladimeji) Solotan of Chapman, Kansas; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers - Stan Vasa of Lincoln, John (Lillian) Vasa of Holyoke, and George Vasa of Ogallala; one sister - Agnes (Melvin) Moritz of Sutherland; other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 26 at 10:00 a.m. Burial was in the Elsie Cemetery.
