Martha A. Baker, age 87 of Canton, OH passed away Saturday (11 Oct 2003) morning in the Pines Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born in Jerusalem, OH on December 14, 1915 she was the first cab driver in Canton employed by the Davis Cab Co. She attended the 38th Street Church of Christ and was a member of the Mayfield Senior Citizens and the Buckeye Music Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Baker who passed away December 5, 1983 and also by her mother, Almeda McFadden and two brothers, Charles "Murphy" Davis and John C. Davis. Survivors include five nieces and nephews, Dawn Walter of Canton, Bonnie Dunnerstick, Dennis Davis and Kim Davis all of Louisville and Clyde Davis of Massillon. Three special friends, Dorothy Shimko, Wilda White and Waneta Ricer. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. There will be calling hours at the funeral home on Monday evening 7-9 p.m. A graveside service and burial will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Woodsfield, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Aultman Hospice. The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the Aultman Hospice, for their care and attention to Martha during her illness.
