"William K. Stanard II Dies; Former Lawyer, Civic Leader – Graveside services for William K. Stanard II, a long-time lawyer here and active in civic affairs, will be held at noon Tuesday in Bellefontaine Cemetery, 4947 West Florissant Avenue.
Mr. Stanard, 62 years old, died Friday at Missouri Baptist Hospital after a short illness.
He had been a partner in the downtown law firm of Carter, Bull and Baer. He lived in Clayton.
In 1956, Mr. Stanard ran an unsuccessful race for St. Louis circuit attorney against Thomas F. Eagleton, now the Democratic United States Senator from Missouri. It was Eagleton's first campaign for public office.
Mr. Stanard graduated in 1937 from Princeton University and got his law degree in 1940 from Harvard Law School. He served in the Navy in World War II.
In the early 1950s, he served as a special assistant United States attorney in the Government's investigation of labor racketeering in St. Louis. In the 18 months that Stanard assisted in the investigation a total of 50 persons were indicted on various charges.
Surviving is his son, William of Newport, R.I."
