On March 13, 1881, Benjamin F. Hackney married Miss Sarah Suitt in Jasper county. She died October 4, 1889. On August 11, 1892, he was married to Miss Laura Vermillion, a native of Owaneca, Illinois.

They had four children
Mary, Joseph D., Ruth and Jane
All four children were born in Carthage

Benjamin F. Hackney of 717 South McGregor in Carthage, passed away at the Jane Chinn Hospital in Webb City, Missouri from a complication of several maladies he was affected with. He was 100 years old at the time of his death. He had been a lawyer and was a member of the Jasper County Bar Association and also held the office of County Recorder in Jasper county.
His wife, the former Laura Vermillion survived him and passed away in 1952.
His father was Edward Hackney and his mother was Frances J. Hackney

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Knell Mortuary and burial was in Park Cemetery.
