Funeral for Virgil "Sonny" Loyd, 68, of Decatur was Dec. 31 at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Hughes and the Rev. Glen Kersey officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery.
Loyd died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, in Decatur.
Born Jan. 10, 1941, in Decatur to Virgil and Myrtle Rosenburg Loyd Sr., he was a truck driver. He married Marjorie Reynolds May 30, 1961. Loyd served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Bell Baptist Church in Decatur.
He was preceded in death by a brother, J.T. Loyd; and sisters, Melba Raye Schroeder and Mary Lou McCandless.
He is survived by his wife; son, Lawrence "Larry" Loyd of Decatur; granddaughter, Shallie Tierce and husband, Logan, of Cottondale; great-grandson, Trapper Tierce; brother, Billy Gene Grundy and wife, Renna, of Decatur; and sisters, Mildred Cauthen and husband, Weldon, of Decatur, Martha Lindsay and husband, Jack, of Oklahoma City, Alice Lawson and husband, Butch, of Runaway Bay and Kay Davis and husband, James, of Slidell.Pallbearers were Wendell Cauthen, Don Brown, Sam Britt, Bill C. Kersey, Shane Brown and Weldon Cauthen.
