Virgie Jane Shelton, 97, of Wells was born July 15, 1912 in Houston County, Texas, the daughter of the late Mary Francis (Wells) and Kenny Lenson Landrum. She passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in a Lufkin hospital.
Mrs. Shelton was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and loved to garden. Mrs. Shelton was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Wells.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James Ray and Melba Ann Shelton of Wells; daughter and her companion Vernell Faulk and Robert Norwicki of Lufkin; granddaughters; Deborah Abney of Dallas, Kimberly Denson of Lufkin, Tammy Dees of Lufkin; grandson, Bill Shelton of El Cajon, CA; step-granddaughters, Irene Storment of Orange Field, TX, Diane Nida of El Cajon, CA, Kathleen Riddley of Lufkin; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Earnest Edward Landrum; a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Shelton in 1977; daughter Pauline Shelton Jackson; brothers; Arthur, Irvin, Alton, Charlie, and Floyd Landrum.
Pallbearers will be Johnathan Dunn, Stephen Arrowood, Jacob Arrowood, William (Bill) Shelton, Ray Landrum, Robert Norwicki, and Scott Denson.
Services for Mrs. Shelton will be held at 10:30 Saturday, October 24, 2009 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Wells.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 pm until 8 pm Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
