Iva M. Hartman, 96, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Pastor Mike Meyer of the Savanna Bible Church will be officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2006 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Memorials may be given to the Savanna Bible Church and or the donor's choice in Iva's memory.

Iva was born on August 12, 1909, in Lanark, the daughter of Harry and Lucy (Ray) Shiley. In 1928, Iva graduated from Lanark High School in Lanark, Illinois and later attended St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Rockford, Illinois where she graduated in 1931. In 1932, Iva served Carroll County as Deputy Sheriff under her father who was sheriff at the time.

Iva began her nursing career in Savanna, Illinois where she worked in the O.B. ward at the hospital for twenty- five years until 1964. She later worked for ten years at the Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa as a surgical nurse, retiring from there in 1974. Iva continued her nursing career working as the head night nurse at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, Illinois. She finally gave up her nursing license when she was 85 years old. Through all her lifetime she cared for everyone who fell ill and needed care. She even cared for the elderly in her home while she had a full time job. Iva was also a member of the Savanna Bible church where she was the church organist and pianist until she was 90 years old. Iva also loved to travel.

Iva will be deeply missed by her son, Allan (Sandra) Hartman of Clinton, Iowa; daughter, Alice (Paul) Hartman-Nau of Hendersonville, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Iva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters, and one daughter Julia Cromwell.
