The funeral for Abel Augustus Medlin, of Fifteenth Ave. NW, who died Sunday, was conducted by the Rev. L. Donald Ellis at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church.

Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Richard Holland, Mid Ramseur, John Patton, Larry Jones, Jimmy Jones and Joe Gallman. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Hickory Optimist Club and Men's Bible Class of the church.

Born in High Shoals, he was a son of the late Dossa A. and Laura Medlin.

A veteran of World War II, he was a captain with the Corps of Engineers having served 43 months with the Army of Occupation in the Philippines and Japan.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he also was a member of the Men's Bible Class.

He was president of Hickory International Trucks, retiring in 1977, and was president of the Hickory Optimist Club in 1972.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Gross Medlin, and a sister, Mrs. Randy Whitely of Hattiesburg, Miss.

Bass-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
