Lt. Col. (retired) James Sterling Anderson passed away on December 27, 2011 in Heber City, Utah. He had fought a long and courageous battle against cancer.

Sterling was born in Grantsville, Utah to Joseph Sterling Anderson and Lucille Gowans Anderson on September 11, 1928. He graduated from Utah State University and was commissioned into the United States Air Force.

He married LouAnna Fitzgerald of Heber City, Utah on December 27, 1952. Together they traveled the world giving their six children many opportunities to meet new people and make new friends. It was a great life!

While in the Air Force Sterling served in may capacities, but especially enjoyed his time working with the Minute Man Missile. After twenty-five years in the Air Force he retired and came home to Utah, settling in Heber City.

Sterling was active in his community serving as President of the Wasatch School Board, President of the Wasatch County Board of Realtors, and was involved in many other community organizations. His integrity was unquestionable and his willingness and desire to help anyone who could use a helping hand will always be remembered.

Sterling was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours at sporting events, birthdays, baptisms, graduations, horse shows, and any other event where he could lend his support and love.

Sterling is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, LouAnna Anderson; six children: Lt. Col. (ret.) Sterling Scott and Shelley Anderson (Dandy, Virginia), Mark and Maureen Anderson (Bozeman, Montana), Bret Anderson (Bangkok, Thailand), Debbie and Kevin Gardiner (Heber City, Utah), Dane and Jane Anderson (Lewiston, Utah), and Chris and Kristie Anderson (Laurel, Montana); fourteen grandchildren: Laurie and Kyle Shaw (Florida), Lynn Marie Anderson (New York City), Kelley Anderson (Virginia), Wesly and Candace Anderson (Australia), Jesse Anderson (Montana), Sarah and Sage Teichert (Idaho), Lane and Jesika Gardiner (Idaho), Chelsie and Brandon Wilson (Utah), Kaden, Chet and Shea Anderson (Utah), and Sadie, Colton, and Brooke Anderson (Montana); two great-grandsons: Flint Sterling Teichert and Hayes Reed Gardiner; brother, Doug (Janet) Anderson of Salt Lake City; and sister, Diane (Kent) Wilson of American Fork. Also, survived by two very lonely dogs.

We will miss Dad's positive outlook on everything, his great sense of humor, his kindness, and most of all the daily sacrifices he made for all of us.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 in the Heber City North Stake Center, 521 East 500 North, Heber City. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the services, both at the church.
Interment will follow the services in the Heber City Cemetery.
