SFC THOMAS J. SMALLWOOD JR
Tommy was born in Ft. Myers, Florida, on November 5, 1938. He grew up in a loving home in North Ft. Myers with his two sisters, Barbara and Carolyn Joyce. He loved hunting, fishing and outdoor sports. He attended school at Ft. Myers High School, but left school prior to graduation to join the Army. He served our country for 14 years and married Elva and had 3 children, Glenn, Teri and Jeffrey. The military family resided in El Paso, Texas. He arrived in Vietnam in late September, 1969, to start his second tour of duty. After just a month, on October 31, 1969, he gave his life for our Country when he died while a passenger in a motor vehicle that hit a bridge An Wag, South Vietnam. he served with Battery D, 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery. It was a "Duster" unit, equipped with self-propelled M2 twin 40mm AA guns. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense, Vietnam Campaign and Vietnam Service Medals.
