John Alexander Claiborne, husband of Elizabeth Adelaide Taylor Claiborne; son of Alexander Herbert Ravenscroft Claiborne (1810-1857) and Elizabeth Ann Taylor (1812-1848). He was a Confederate Veteran and married Addie Taylor December 16, 1866 after his return from the War. For a few days after their wedding he was extremely ill with pneumonia. He moved his new bride to Arlington, Shelby County Tennessee to clear land adjacent to his sister Martha "Matt" and her husband Dr. Fred Battle. (Their first son "Alex" Claiborne was born in the newly finished home December 2, 1867. He married Fairie L. Kennedy and their three children died in infancy. They moved to Los Angeles County, California where Alex died 1921 and Fairie 1930.) After the death of Addie 1895, John Alexander Claiborne lived with his younger sons Fred Battle Claiborne and William Anthony Claiborne in Bolivar where Fred owned a dairy farm. He was blind in his last years, and died 1918 when his son William joined the Army for WWI.
