He was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. He was the first husband of three married to Minnie Maude Poyser (daughter of Miles R. Poyser and Lydia Ann Dixon) on 18 Jul 1902 in Craig, Oklahoma. They had no children. After the Indian Removal Act of 1830 was passed by the United States, Claremore became part of Indian Territory and the Cherokee Nation. He is buried in Claremore, Oklahoma.
