Mr. Backman was member of the Advent Christian Church of Beals and the Winter Harbor Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ethel M. (Haycock) Backman; three brothers, Donald L. Sr. of Gouldsboro; Bernard A., of Jonesport and Herman Jr. of Beals; four sisters, Ulrika Faulkingham of Winter Harbor; Rebecca Graves of North Quincy, Mass.; Louisa Crowley and Laura Beal, both of Beals; several nieces and nephews; and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services were held at the Warren Funeral Home, Milbridge, Wednesday, June 9, with the Rev. George Woodward officiating and the Rev. Barnard Brown assisting.
Burial was in Prospect Harbor Cemetery.
