Deceased Name: Richard S. Brindle , councilor, registrar
Richard S. Brindle, 73, of 48 Barney St., a former town councilor, registrar, and zoner, died Tuesday at home. He was a supervisor at Carando Meats of Springfield for 10 years, and retired in 1986. He had worked for Armour & Co. there for 20 years. He served two terms on the Town Council, including a term as president. He also served on the Board of Registrars, and chaired the Zoning Review Committee.
He sat on the Junior High School building committee, the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Committee, and the Bondi Island's Task Force.
He was a former chairman of the Republican Town Committee, and a town meeting member.
He was a trustee and chairman of the board at the former Monson State Hospital, a treasurer and past president of the Capt. Charles Leonard House, and belonged to the Lions Club and the Friends of the Senior Center.
Born and schooled in Westerly, R.I., he attended Syracuse University, and was graduated form Colgate University in 1948.
He lived here from 1952.
He attended the Congregational Church, and was a deacon, moderator, trustee, and treasurer. He also served on the church building and finance committees, and was president of the Merrywed Club.
He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, and a Little League baseball manager-coach. He also coached the Church Basketball League, and was honored as coach of the year.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, and served with the 4th Marine Division in the Pacific theater. He was in the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He leaves his wife, the former Marion Graham; two sons, Richard S. of Castle Rock, Colo., and G. Scott of Longmeadow; three daughters, Jean G. Brindle of Feeding Hills, Susan F. Brindle of Monson, and Elsie A. Mallory of Agawam; a brother, Roger of Winter Park, Fla.; two sisters, Elsie Brown of Deerfield, N.H., and Helen Lathrop of Glastonbury, Conn.; seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at noon Thursday in the church, with a private burial in Center Cemetery. Calling hours are this afternoon and evening at Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home.
