Cassinda Joy was the daughter of Thomas Joy and Lydia Shepard. These parents had married in Washington Co., Ohio (1835), afterward residing in Wood Co., Virginia (WV) in 1850, and Bartholomew Co., Indiana in 1860. Cassinda married twice:

1. Stephen G. Ward
April 30, 1859, Bartholomew Co., Indiana
Cassinda and Stephen lived in Indiana for several years, then moved to Wayne Co., Illinois after the Civil War, and afterward to Barton Co., Kansas in the 1870s. Cassinda and Stephen each brought children from prior relationships to their union; together they were parents of Willard Asher Ward, Ella May Ward, Mary Belle Ward, Benjamin F. Ward, Amos J. Ward, and Stephen B. Ward.

2. Moses M. Ward (Stephen's brother)
Jan. 10, 1879, Barton Co., Kansas
No issue of this union.
