Rev. Sherlock Anson Bronson, D.D., LL.D.

Episcopal clergy, Rev. Sherlock was the 4th president of Kenyon College, 1845-1850.

In 1829 he enrolled in Kenyon College, at this time the founder of Kenyon was still at the college, Philander Chase.

Sherlock Bronson graduated as his class valedictorian in 1833.

Bronson then went on to complete a course at the Bexley Hall seminary in 1835 and finished his masters degree at Kenyon in 1836.

Rev. Sherlock Bronson was the first rector at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Granville, Ohio. Serving from 1837 until 1845. He served for 9 years as minister, in Granville, Ohio.

Bronson returned to Gambier to teach at Bexley Hall and serve as acting Chaplain of the College in 1867-1869.

He was Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Mansfield, Ohio, 1870-1889.
The funeral was held at Grace Church, Bishop Leonard, of Cleveland, officiated and was assisted by the clergy of the Episcopal Church. The interment was in the Mansfield Cemetery.

REV. DR. SHIRLOCK A. BRONSON - The death of the Rev. Dr. S.A. Bronson, as
briefly noted in these columns yesterday, although anticipated for the previous
24 hours, was nevertheless a shock, as earlier in the day yesterday, and until 2
o'clock in the afternoon, he was believed to be a little better.

The funeral will occur from Grace Church tomorrow at 3 p.m. Bishop Leonard, of
Cleveland, will officiate and be assisted by the clergy of the Episcopal Church.
The interment will be made in the Mansfield Cemetery.

The deceased was a native of Danbury, Connecticut, and came to Lorain County,
Ohio with his parents in his infancy in 1807. He attended Kenyon College and was
graduated from that institution in 1833 and two years later was ordained to the
ministry in the Episcopal Church. From 1845 to 1850 he was president of Kenyon
College and in 1867 he was professor of ecclesiastical history in the same
institution. He came to this city as rector of Grace Episcopal Church in 1872
and held that charge until about one year ago when he resigned on account of the
growing infirmities of age. Dr. Bronson was endeared to all who knew him. He was
a grand man in all respects. He was a thorough scholar and possessed of all
those qualities of mind and heart which gave him a place of high esteem and
regard among men.
