Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant Major in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company L, 10th New York Cavalry for action on April 6, 1865 at Deatonsville (Sailor's Creek), Virginia. His citation reads "Charged the enemy and, with the assistance of Cpl. Andrew Bringle, captured a fieldpiece with two prisoners."
