Please note that the family name was Aler (misspelled on a few of the Civil War records as "Ayler." In German, the name was actually spelled Oehler, but the family changed the name to Aler in 1832 when they came to the US. Fred was born in NY but soon after the family moved to Ohio.

Age 27 years enlisted August 22, 1862 as Corporal with I. 122nd Ohio Infantry died June 7, 1864 at White House, VA. from wounds received in Battle of Cold Harbor, VA. he was wounded June 1, 1864.
