From the Skidmore Standard, December 15, 1899, page 1:
"Altha Cecil Lewis was born January 30, 1873, at State Center, Iowa and died December 7, 1899 near Skidmore, Missouri, aged 26 years 10 months and 7 days.

When a child only six years old, her mother died and she was adopted by an aunt and taken to Miliners Corner, Indiana, where she grew into womanhood. She came to this state in 1891 and was married to W. W. Grigsby August 9, 1893. This union was blessed with two children, a son and a daughter. Wallace died two years ago at the age of 13 months. Little Mary, aged 5, remains to cheer and console her bereaved father.

Mrs. Grigsby had been an invalid for several months prior to death's summons. She was taken west last summer by her fond husband who cherished a hope that the change of scenes and climate would improve the condition of his wife's health; then she was taken to Weltmer at Nevada, Mo. and remained some time under his treatment; but throughout it all her strength gradually failed, and it was recognized by relatives and friends that the inevitable must come ere long.

Rev. Lane Douglas conducted the funeral services at Burr Oak church last Friday and her remains were interred in the Burr Oak cemetery."

From the December 8, 1899 Skidmore Standard, page 1:
"Mrs. W. W. Grigsby Dead.
Sadness has come into other hearts, this week, with the death of Mrs. W. W. Grigsby, who peacefully passed away, Wednesday night. For some time she had been very low with consumption and death was expected any time by her relatives and friends. Everything possible that money and loving hands could do was done to prolong life and alleviate her sufferings, but death at last gained the inevitable victory. The funeral and burial occur today at Burr Oak, at 11 o'clock."
