James was married twice. He was married to Lavinia Wilcox [Browning] until her death about 1916 and later to Martha Wilcox [Sirmans].
James was living with his daughter Lavada Wilcox Carter and her family in Waycross, Georgia when he died. His only surviving grand daughter estimates that he died in 1938, the year before Lavada and her family moved to Portsmouth, Virginia in December 1939.
His grand daughter is pretty certain that he's buried in this cemetery where both his son Mitchell Monroe Wilcox (d. 1940) and grandson Royce Vance Carter (d. 1936) are buried.
There is a strong possibility that the unmarked cement slab to the right of Royce V. Carter is the grave of his grandfather (James Monroe Wilcox) or another family member. Click on Unmarked Grave.
