Murvin E. Leach, 78, of 314 N. Birch, died at 9:29 a.m. Sept. 26, 2008, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born April 21,1930 in Blakesburg to Thurman G. and Edith E. Benson Leach. He married Patricia A. McNeal June 19, 1948 in Albia.

He worked for John Morrell and Co. in Ottumwa for 25 1/2 years and received an award for having never missed a day of work. He then worked for nine years for John Morrell and Co. in Memphis, Tenn. and then for three years in Sioux Falls, S.D., retiring Aug. 28, 1985. After returning to Ottumwa, he was a bus driver for Ottumwa Transit for a short time. He then managed the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Ottumwa for 14 years. He started "Country Jubilee", a country music festival in Memphis, Tenn., operating it for seven years. He was one of the starting organizers of the "Old Time Music Festival" in Drakesville which now takes place in Bloomfield.He had been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, S.D., and was a Past Master and member of Eddyville Masonic Lodge #74 A.F. and A.M., a Past Patron of Order of Eastern Star Ottumwa Chapter #112, and a Past Master of Knight of Pythias #12.

Surviving is his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Vickie (Leon) Pilcher of Eddyville; three granddaughters, Misti (Kelly) Dawley of Montezuma, Lori (Kevin) Adamson of Eddyville, Jenni (Clint) Ver Steegh of Oskaloosa; seven great-grandchildren, Brok and Madison Dawley, Kaleb and Koby Adamson, Dane, Chloe and Logan Ver Steegh; a cousin, Margaret (Bill) Wignall of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma DeVoll; and a half-sister, Mary Knapp.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Harmon officiating. Cremation will follow the services.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home followed by a Masonic service.
