John Ashby, age 84, longtime resident of Orwell , passed away Saturday at his home. John was born February 13, 1927 in Orwell, the son of Ashton and Hilda Jackson Ashby. He married Joan Bristol on February 17, 1952. John was employed by Blount Lumber Co., retiring after 20 years. He was also employed by Iroquois China in Syracuse for 20 years, and he owned and operated Ashby Busy Beaver. John was a member of the Orwell Fire Department, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving, his wife, Joan, two daughters, Joan (David) Woolson of Orwell and Jean (Gary) Gulliver of Palermo, two sons, John (Yvonne) Ashby and Edwin (Nancy) Ashby both of Orwell, one sister Lillian Murray of Granby, and 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. John is predeceased by his sisters, Maria Babcock, Charlotte Berryman, Kate Hughes, and brothers, Lois Stoutenger, Robert, George, Alfred, Richard, Frank, and Frederick Ashby.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Foster -Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral.
