Bert Harris Crews, 83, of Waycross, passed away June 13, 2014, in the presence of her loving children. She was born in Waycross, Georgia to the late Eddie Harris and Annie Bell Burch Harris and lived here for most of her life.

In 1950 she married Billy Crews, also of Waycross, and during her husband's 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Mrs. Crews traveled with him all over the world. Living in Puerto Rico, Germany, Goose Bay, Labrador, and many other cities, she was a very active military wife, serving as a leader of multiple NCO wives' organizations and mothering three children.

Along with her husband, Mrs. Crews retired to Waycross in 1990, where she spent the remainder of her life dedicated to her family and friends. She and her husband took many roadtrips in their RV, including regular outings to their local favorite, Fernandina Beach, as well as a months-long journey from Waycross to Alaska and back. Mrs. Crews was a creative woman of many talents, particularly painting, writing, and interior design. However, she will be remembered with most deep affection by those who knew her as a lovingly supportive wife, mother and friend, always willing to help anyone in need and always ready with an engaging family story. Friends and family members are invited to visit milesodumfuneralhome.com to leave a personal note or story about Mrs. Crews.

Aside from her parents, Mrs. Crews was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Crews; her son, Brian Crews; two brothers, Bo and Jack Harris; two brothers-in-law, Larry and Bob Crews; and one sister-in-law, Linda Jeffords. She is survived by her two adult children, Belinda Crews Chancey and Brad Crews, as well as her son-in-law Joe Chancey; two grandchildren, Josh and Sammi Chancey; three siblings, Rosa Lee Bryant, Dot Harris, and Billy Harris; her sister-in-law, Joyce Sloan; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her church family at Williams Chapel. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Buddy, who has been a great comfort and friend to her over the past six years.

A public visitation will take place on Sunday, June 15, from 6-8pm at Miles-Odum Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Williams Chapel at 11am, Monday, June 16. Graveside services will follow immediately afterwards in Kettle Creek Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband of 58 years and her eldest child.

The family asks the Deacons of Williams Chapel to serve as Honorary Pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:30am.
