Services forArnold J. Ritter, 97, of Texas were held this morning at Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage. Ritter, who was born on March 25, 1894, in Talmage one of five children born to to William J. and Ida (Misegadis) Ritter, died Sept. 28, 1991, at Retama Manor in Weslaco, Texas.

Ritter grew up in the Talmage community and received his education at the Talmage Public School. He graduated from the Talmage High School in 1910 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was baptized on May 14, 1894, at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Talmage by Rev. Frederick Duerschner and confirmed on March 20, 1910, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Talmage by the Rev. H. Stave.

He was married on Nov. 29, 1917, in Talmage to Lynna J. Damme and survived her in death on May 6, 1958. After their marriage, Arnold and his family farmed near Talmage. He later was the director of the Bank of Talmage. During his retirement years, he spent his summers in Minnesota and his winters in Texas.

He was a lifelong member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage. He was a charter member of the Otoe County Farm Bureau and also served on various community boards. He had a special love for music and was an enthusiastic member of the Talmage Community Band for many years.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lavern (Marilyn) Whittler of Talmage; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
