Loretta Male, 93, a resident at Colonial Manor of Zearing and formerly of Ames, died on Monday, February 16, 2004 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Loretta Dorothea (Hinderaker) Male was born on February 28, 1910, on the Hinderaker family farm north of Radcliffe, Iowa. She was the eldest of seven children born to Joseph and Ella (Britson) Hinderaker.
She graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1929 and attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. She taught rural schools for six years.
On June 4, 1938, Loretta was united in marriage to Joseph Male at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. She and Joe farmed the Hinderaker home place for several years before moving to a Male farm northeast of Garden City, Iowa. They lived there until 1968 when they moved to Ames. Loretta worked for J C Penny's after moving to Ames.
Loretta was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames, where she had been involved with Ladies Aide. She was also a Bible study leader and a Sunday school teacher.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jolene Frette and her husband Dennis of Ames; three grandchildren, Holly Pham, Kevin Frette and Sarah Frette; four great grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Ray, Paige Riley and Madison Ruth Frette and Tai Male Pham; one brother, Bill Hinderaker of Radcliffe; one sister, Erma Ullestad of Scottsdale, AZ; along with many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; and four brothers, Harvey, Ernest, Kenneth and LuVerne.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19 at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames. Loretta will be buried at Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe.
The family will receive friends at Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe on Wednesday February 18 from 6 to 8 p.m.
