Thomas W. Pernot, 62, of Sycamore, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at his home with his mother and brother by his side.

He had been through a three-and-a-half-year battle with cancer, never giving up hope until the last three months. Even then, he never complained and tried to help make things as easy as possible for his mother and hospice caregivers (his earth angels).

He was born Sept. 25, 1949, in Rockford, the son of Armand "Sonny" and Doris Pernot. Tom was a 1967 graduate of Sycamore High School and went to Rock Valley College for two years. He then held an apprenticeship for the printing trade at Duplex Industries, where he worked for 23 years.

Tom was an avid Harley Davidson rider and member of ABATE, Sycamore Moose Club and Moose Riders. He helped organize and participate in many benefits to help those in need. He was always there for his friends and family who were in need of anything, if only a shoulder to lean on.

Tom married Carolyn Burrow in September 1970 and was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Michelle. He later married Mary Ann Gorc in August 2003 in Milwaukee.

Tom is survived by his mother, Doris Pernot; one brother, Jay Pernot; one daughter, Michelle (Branko) Filimonovic; one grandson, Branko Jr.; and a special aunt and uncle, Marilyn and Dale Hindenburg.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1998 and his wife, Mary Ann, in 2007.

The family would like to thank DeKalb County Hospice, Dr. Memon and all who were there for Tom.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore, with Rev. Steve Persson officiating.

Memorials can be made to DeKalb County Hospice in care of the local family-owned and -operated, Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL, 60178.
