Samuel Frederick Clair, age 91, of Needles, Calif., passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 16, 2011.

Sam was born on February 1, 1920 in Barberton, Ohio. He was a member of the 77th Infantry Division during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. After returning from the war he began farming in Hanoverton Township, Ohio. In 1957 Sam moved his family to San Diego, Calif. and worked for General Dynamics and was a sergeant on the San Diego Police Department Reserves. Sam accepted a position with the State of California Department of Employment, Farm Labor Service in 1961 where he advanced to District Manager. He retired from state service in 1982. Sam relocated to Needles, Calif. in 1990 and became a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department's Colorado River Station Citizens Patrol and attained the position of Commander.

Sam was preceded in death by one daughter, Freda Boecker; and two sons, Frederick and Jack Clair.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary L. Clair; children , Blaine Clair, Rogers, Ohio; Marilyn Price, Moreno Valley, Calif.; Janet Roberts, Camarillo, Calif.; Stanley Clair, Henderson, Nev.; Beatrice Richardson and Larry Clair, Fort Mohave, Ariz.; additionally he had 22 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Those wishing to attend, viewing will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 22, 2011, (all times Pacific), at Dimond and Sons Needles Mortuary, Third and "E" Streets, Needles, Calif. Funeral to follow at Needles Riverview Cemetery.
