Mike Pickham, of Rancho Cucamonga, gently slipped into the arms of his Savior on Dec. 30, 2011 at San Antonio Community Hospital. His loving family was by his side. Born Dec. 9, 1942 in Chicago, IL, Mike followed a long-standing family tradition and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, honorably serving his country from 1961 to 1964. He married Joan, the love of his life, in 1964. They moved to Rancho Cucamonga with their young children, Bob and Kim, in 1969. Mike proudly graduated with honors from Chaffey College in 1976 with an AA in accounting. He worked for Verizon as a Service Technician II for 34 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of 11th St. Baptist Church in Upland. One of Mike's greatest enjoyments was being with family, whether camping in Yosemite, celebrating family at reunions, watching his grandchildren participate in sports and drum line, relaxing in Lake Arrowhead, visiting Disneyland, or cheering for the White Sox and his beloved Chicago Bears. He also loved to make people laugh. Mike was a man of character and generosity, always a Marine, who loved God, his country, and others. He is survived by his wife Joan; her parents, Jack and Lorraine Gardner; 2 children, Bob Pickham (Julie) and Kim Cooke (Darrin); 5 grandchildren, Cameron, Madison, Payton, Taylor, and Lacey; 3 sisters, Christine Haight, Patricia McDermott, and Peggy Kacka; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Pickham; and his brother, Richard. Mike was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Visitation at Stone Funeral Home in Upland is Friday, Jan. 6th from 5-8 PM. His life will be celebrated on Sat., Jan. 7th at 11AM at 11th St. Baptist Church, Upland.
