The Splittstoesser's immigrated to America in 1870's. (After Anna was born in Germany - 1873 and before Amelia was born in Wisconsin - 1876.) They were six weeks on the ocean and then they traveled from New York to Milwaukee, Wisconsin by train. Frederick and Johanna moved from Milwaukee to Edendale Township in 1881 and lived with their son Frank until he was married in 1889. Per the Hope, North Dakota Museum and Genealogy Society, Fred had a sheep raising operation near Anamoose, North Dakota during the turn of the century,about 1900. A picture of Fred and the sheep raising operation is on file and an enlarged color picture is hanging upstairs in the Hope, North Dakota museum. (per Kenneth C. Stiles July 1998)
