James Ward Maples, age 80, of Highlandville, went home to meet his Lord and Savior January 3, 2012, at home surrounded by his family. He was born December 20, 1931, in Highlandville, the son of Austin and Weltha Maples. On December 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Esther Meier and their union was blessed with a son and three daughters. He was a lifelong resident of the Tory Community and a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1969 and devoted his entire life to the church. He served his country in the army for two years, 1953 - 1955. He worked at Vermillion Wood Products until he was disabled and then worked on the farm. He loved spending time with family and loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Survivors include: His beautiful wife of 56 years, Esther, of the home; son, Allen and Donna of Highlandville; daughter, LouAnn and Gary of Highlandville; daughter Shelia and Tony of Highlandville; daughter Leila and Kevin of Fordland; seven grandchildren, Wade, Will, Jamie, Sarah, Carrie, Brittany, and J.C.; six great-grandchildren, Daniel, Ethan, Myli, Jackson, Kortnie and Kaiya. He is also survived by one sister, Lois and Joe Foell of Springfield; sister-in-law, Annie Maples of Highlandville, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Austin, and a brother Glen. "Pa, you will be missed greatly by all who were privileged to know you. We will always love and miss you. What a day that will be when we all see you again." Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 6, in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Hartwell and Pastor Rich Washam officiating. Burial will follow in Highlandville Cemetery. Visitaiton will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
