Arnold Holder was the oldest of eight children. He was a school teacher, lawyer and realtor. Arnold and Letha eloped while Letha was attending Berea High School. Letha had been a student of Arnold in a one room school. Arnold taught school at Rocky Branch, Ky before moving to Jamestown, Ky.

Wife: Letha Fay Scott, born 05-29-1906 and died 12-20-1983 was the 9th of 10 children born to William Lewis Scott and Lydia Elizabeth Morrow on a farm in Wayne County, Ky (farm now covered by Lake Cumberland). Letha was an active member of Jamestown Baptist Church, the PTA and other civic organizations. They had eight children.

Children:

Morris Clark Holder, born 04-16-1923, married Pauline and they had one son, Arnold Clark Holder. Morris graduated from Jamestown High School and worked for Eli Lilly Co. in Indianapolis, Indiana until he retired and moved to Florida.

Velda Blanche Holder, born 04-25-1925, graduated from Jamestown High School and attended Berea College. She worked in Washington, D.C. for Sendator McCelland, where she met and married Richard Frank Broz from Tacoma, Washington. They moved to Seattle, WA where Richard practices law. They have two sons, William Richard Broz and Mitchell August Broz.

Marie Lois born 08-01-1926, married Clifford Aaron, from Russell Springs, Ky. They have four children, Roy Lewis, a lawyer in Knoxville, TN, Jennifer Sue, who lives in Memphis, TN, Diana Kim who resides in Kingsport, TN and Cindy Scott.

Violet Day Holder, born 1927, died 1927.

Norma Fay, born 02-10-1928, graduated from Jamestown High School. She attended Berea College and Purdue University majoring in home economics. She married Richard C. Petitt (10-04-1923 to 06-10-1988. They had four children: Patricia Gail (1950-1953, Cheryl Lynn, Ronald Lee and Robert Edward. Richard worked for General Electric Co. until he retired and moved to Pinehurst, NC where Norma still resides.

Arnold Cameron Holder, 01-30-1930 to 07-21-1951. Cameron was attending the University of Kentucky when he was killed in an automobile accident along with three other young men from Jamestown.

Donald Dean, born 02-06-1932, graduated from Jamestown High School. He married Joan Helm and lives in Cleveland, Ohio. They have three children, Richard Dean, Wesley Scott and Beverly Susan. All reside in Cleveland.

Phillip Carter Holder, born 04-17-1934, married Janice Clayton, then of Jamestown. They had one daughter, Ora Fay. They were divorced and Phillip married Elda Sisley. They reside in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Arnold C. Holder Succumbs in Lexington Hospital...

Arnold C. Holder, widely known businessman and real estate dealer, died Thursday, March 5, in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky, where he had been a patient for about a month. He had submitted to an operation, but complications ensued, and despite all efforts he failed to overcome these. Mr. Holder was 68 years of age.

He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, but his major interest through the years was in the real estate business, where he was famed as an auctioneer in Kentucky and surrounding states. He helped to develop many sections through sales of subdivisions and acreages.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Letha Holder and by three daughters and three sons...Mrs. Velda Broz of Mercer Island, Washington, Mrs. Marie Aaron of Kingsport, TN, Mrs. Norma Petitt of Scotia, N.Y., Morris Holder of Indianapolis, IN and Donald Holder of Cleveland and Phillip Holder, also of Indianpolis.
He leaves also 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild and 6 step grandchildren.

Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Emma Holder, Albany, Ky and two sisters and four brothers...Mrs. Reba Hubbard of Jamestown, Mrs. Vivian Brown of Russell Springs, John Holder of Rogersville, TN, Lilburn Holder of Anderson, IN, Arthur Holder of St. Petersburg, FL and Paul Holder of Marysville, TN. There are a number of other relatives and friends by the hundreds.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 8, in the Jamestown Baptist Church with Bro. Thurmon Harris officiating. Honorary pallbearers included Jesse Bernard, Claude Beck, Dr. David L. Lawrence, Kelly Bernard, Leonard Wilson, J.P. Agee, James A. Hicks, Terill A. Wilson, Voliver Grider, Charles Aaron, Billy Warner, Cowman Waddle, Conway Acree, Gene Gosser, Russell Beams, W.N. Hargrove, Wm. M. Miller, Jack Miller, Earl Holt, Hollis Edmonds, O.G. Bottom, H.B. Popplewell, Lucian Leach, and Wilbur Cravens. Active pallbearers were K.G. Bernard, Andrew Norfleet, Walter Thomas, Ed McFalls, Andy Daughtery and Joe L. Chumbley.

Burial was in the Jamestown Cemetery with Bernard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
