Elaine Denning was the twelfth of twelve children born to Prudentius and Barbara Denning. She grew up on the family farm northeast of WaKeeney and attended WaKeeney schools. She married Duane Owen Newcomer in 1950 and seven children were born to them. These children were David Duane, Randy Mark, Keevin Craig, Sandra Lea, Brian Joseph, Steven Kent, and Eric Jon. Elaine enjoyed her children and grandchildren and helped her husband on the farm.
