Obituary

Arley Sheldon, 56, well known representative for the International Union of Operating Engineers, died last night about 11:30 p.m. at his residence at 1115 South Washington street of paralysis of the respiratory system. He had been ill since the latter part of July.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Social Brethern church with Rev. Elmer Grisham, Rev. Clifford Potter and Rev. Clifford Brinkley officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill.

Mr. Sheldon was born in Hardin County the son of the late Theodore and Martha Sheldon and moved to Saline county in 1911 where he had resided ever since. HIs first wife, Loudene Hilliard, preceded him in death in 1926, after which he married Ella Douglas in 1928. One daughter, Phyllis, remains at home. He also had one step daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy Hill) Keltner, and one step-grandchild, Bruce Keltner. A brother, Loy, also survives.

He was the business representative in the 14 southernmost counties of Illinois where he was well known, having held the position since 1930.

A member of the Masons, Shriners, Elks, American Legion, Eagles, he was a charter member and past commander of the VFW and was a veteran of World War I.

Pall bearers will be Douglas Ewell, Stanley Medley, Roscoe Cook, Robert Hilliard, Ray Anderson and Hal Dawes.

The body will be returned to the residence today at 4 p.m. by the Gaskins funeral home.
