RUDOLPH DAHLKE DIES AT AGE 80
Former City Employee; Funeral Services to Be Held Monday
Rudolph J. Dahlke, 80, a resident of Grand Island for 37 years and a former employee of the city water department, died early this morning in a local hospital following an illness for 14 months. He had been critically ill for a week and had been confined to the hospital during that time. The family home is at 614 West Fourth.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home by the Rev. L. A. Tessmer, pastor of Christ Lutheran church. Burial will be in Grand Island Cem.
Mr. Dahlke was born Feb. 9, 1869, in Prussia, Germany, to Mr. and Mrs. John Dahlke. The family emigrated to Hampton when he was 14 years old, and he completed his schooling there.
He and Miss Ottilia Bruse were married in 1896 at Milwaukee, Wis., and they made their home there for a period before moving to Hampton. The family moved to Grand Island in 1913 and Mr. Dahlke was employed in the Union Pacific shops.
He later was employed by the city water department, a position he held until 10 years ago when his eyesight began to fail and he retired from the service. Mrs. Dahlke died Dec. 13, 1932. Mr. Dahlke was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Eugene Enyeart, North Platte, Mrs. Amer Rickard, Alda, and Mrs. Elsie Vinecore and Mrs. Werner Grothendick, both of Grand Island; one son, Ernest Dahlke, Grand Island; four brothers, Julius Dahlke, Fresno, Cal; William Dahlke, Stockham, Ernest Dahlke, Omaha, and Gust Dahlke, Granton; one sister Mrs. Bruno Kohtz, Hampton; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and one sister, Mrs. Fred Kohtz.
Friends may call Sunday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock at the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home.
