"Walter Henry Yates died after a brief illness at his home in Cooperstown Sunday afternoon, April 2, 1911. The funeral was held from his late residence, No. 36 Chestnut street, in this village, at 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Mr. Birdsall, rector of Christ church, officiated. Interment in Lakewood cemetery. Mr. Yates was born at East Waverly, N. Y., December 28, 1849. When he was three years of age, his father moved with his family to New Lisbon, where he resided for a number of years. In the year 1890, Mr. Yates, with his wife, took up his residence in this village, where he has resided ever since. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Carrie T. Russell, of Cooperstown, one sister, Mrs. Czar L. Nearing, of Oneonta, and two brothers, George A. Yates of New Lisbon, and Dr. Nathaniel F. Yates, of Cherry Valley. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: George A. Yates of New Lisbon, Dr. N. F. Yates of Cherry Valley, Czar L. Nearing and Miss Helen Nearing of Oneonta, Mrs. Margaret G. Russell and James L. Russell of New York city, Mrs. Christina Stewart and daughters of Flycreek and John M. Russell of Johnstown, N. Y."
