Death of Mrs Samuel Carson, Sr
It is our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of one of the first settlers in this district, in the person of Mrs Samuel Carson Sr, who passed away on Tuesday, July 14th at the home of her daughter Mrs D McPhail, after a long illness of three years duration. Deceased was in her 88th year and has resided in this district continuously for 32 years, coming from Ontario with her husband and family in the year 1882 and settled on a farm in the Forest Farm district. Her partner in life predeceased her thirteen years ago. The late Mrs Carson possessed a beautiful character, and to those who knew her best will always remember her a kind, lovable woman. She leaves to mourn her loss a family of eight: five sons and three daughters, namely – Mrs Wark, Mrs Vennard and Mrs McPhail, Samuel, William R and J J Carson of this district, Robert of Rossburn and James of High Bluff, Manitoba.
The funeral took place on Thursday, July 16th, to the Forest Farm cemetery, service being held in St Matthew's Church, conducted by the vicar, the Rev Guthrie Alison, and was largely attended by many friends who took the opportunity of expressing their sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. The pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased lady, namely – Robert Vennard, Sammie Carson, John Vennard, Harold Carson, William McPhail and Horace Carson of Rossburn, Manitoba.
