For the past seventeen years Marie served as the Consumer Relations Consultant for Grade A ShopRite . As Grade A's official spokesperson, she pioneered the way by promoting healthy lifestyles through nutritional education. She also managed public and community relations activities for Grade A as it grew throughout Fairfield County. She took great pride and satisfaction in running her cooking classes for various audiences, especially the Girls and Boy Scout troops as well as students and seniors.
Marie's devout Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. She gave unselfishly of her time and talent at both St. Mary's Parish, and for the last several years at Sacred Heart Parish in Stamford. She served as president of the Council of Catholic Women and was acting secretary for the Stamford Nocturnal Eucharistic Adoration Society. She was also a member of the St. Mary and Sacred Heart Rosary Societies, St. Mary's Choir, served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister as well as an RCIA teacher at St. Mary's. In addition, Marie served on the Advisory Board for Catholic Family Services of Stamford and the Diocese of Bridgeport Pastoral Council. She was also a member of the American Home Economics Association, Home Economists in Business- NY and CT (past president), and the Connecticut Culinary Women's Alliance (past secretary). Marie was a board member of the Fairfield County Taste of the Nation/Share Our Strength. In an effort to bring attention to the often misunderstood and forgotten families who go hungry every day in our communities; Marie was a founding member of the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, Inc; and spearheaded it's major fundraiser the Connoisseurs' Dinner; now known as the Chef's Dinner to Fight Hunger. Whenever called upon to serve the sick, the poor, the Church, or just a friend in need, she never said no and always joyfully embraced the opportunity to help.
Marie is survived by her loving brothers, Capt. Joseph F. Walsh, Jr., US Navy Ret. of Dearborn, MI, and Gregory P. Walsh of Fort Salonga, L.I., nieces Laura Kelly and Sarah Mellen, a nephew John David Walsh as well as a grand niece and two grand nephews. Marie was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Pino.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT 06902 on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 9:40 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Mary's R.C. Church , 566 Elm Street, Stamford at 10:30 AM. Interment services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:30 AM at the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Cemetery, North Highway, Southhampton, NY. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM In lieu of flowers, we ask that you have a Holy Mass at a Roman Catholic Church offered up for the repose of her soul and in addition we invite you to pray a Holy Rosary for her intention.
