FORT VALLEY - Emma Ruth Alden, 92, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville. Services will be held at 2P.M. on Monday, January 9, 2012 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Drs. Donald and Ruth Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Born in Banks County to the late John and Elizabeth Stevens Davis, Mrs. Alden was a graduate of the University of Georgia. For more than 65 years she was married to the late John Charles Alden Sr. They enjoyed traveling, having visited dozens of countries, and both were avid golfers. She was Ladies Golf Champion at Pine Needles Country Club for three years in a row. Also an excellent bridge player, she played well into her later years. She was a devoted member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Even when she became unable to attend, she still loved and supported her church. For almost two years she lived at Kingsford Assisted Living.

Survivors include her children, John Charles Alden Jr. and his wife Jimmie of Leland, NC and Tommy Alden and his wife Brenda of Byron; grandchildren, Michael Alden and his wife Tammie of Swansboro, NC, Tracy Barbour and her husband Rhett of Byron, and Travis Alden and his wife Melissa of Byron; great-grandchildren, Alden Elizabeth, Jackson Brooks and Emma Adeline Barbour and Taylor Grace and Ross Clayton Alden; brother-in-law, Robert Alden of Helen, and several nieces and nephews.
