About 1863, John & Keziah and their children & their families uprooted and migrated west in an oxen pulled covered wagon. They came via the Oregon Trail route, and then coming to Colusa from Oregon. Son Samuel had preceded them to California in the year 1852. John & Keziah appear in the 1870 Colusa County, CA census, but he does not appear in the 1880 census. John died in 1874 and Keziah died sometime after 1880.

At Colusa, November 11th, John B. Baker, a native of Russell county, Virginia, aged 75 years.
[Mr. Baker was an old and highly respected citizen of Colusa. He was the father of William, Samuel and Albert(sic- Alfred) Baker; also of Mrs. David McCollum and Mrs. William Thomas. Deceased leaves thirty grandchildren and three great grandchildren, all residing in Colusa county. Mr. Baker was a gentleman of great activity, and the very soul of honor. Although he had reached the evening of life, and served out more than the usual time of man on earth, his death was unexpected until within a very short time of his decease. His loss will be severely felt by a large circle of relatives and friends.]
