Funeral services for John Aitchison, age 83, of Bottineau, ND, were held on Monday, May 16, 2011 in the Metigoshe Christian Center at Lake Metigoshe. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Carol Wendel. Rosemary Smith was the organist. Casket bearers were John Herschlip, Kyle Rude, Dwight Olson, Wayne Smith, Arlan Rispa and Jim Rispa. Burial was at the Salem Cemetery near Bottineau, MN.

John Aitchison, a son of George and Lula (Howery) Aitchison, was born on August 18, 1927, at Antler, ND. He was reared in Dunseith, ND and graduated from Dunseith High School. On October 27, 1949, he married Thelma Nickelson at Dunseith. They moved to Minot and John worked as a delivery man for Bridgeman Creamery. He also worked parttime at Frank's Service Station in Minot for a time. He retired from the creamery in 1991.

Thelma passed away on January 7, 2000. Later that year, John moved to Lake Metigoshe. In October of 2010, he moved into Manorcare in Minot and on April 1, 2011 he moved into the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center.

John was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Minot where he was active in the Men's Club. He later was a member of the Lake Metigoshe Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, in a Bottineau nursing home.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Sisk of Westhope and son, Ken Aitchison and his wife, Marlene of Cheyenne, WY; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Richard of Havre, MT.
